Maha Elkaisy-Friemuth, born Elkaisy, has been employed at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven, since September 1, 2008, as a lecturer of Islam and Christian-Muslim relation. She is a member of the Research Unit History of Church and Theology.

Maha Elkaisy-Friemuth obtained her PhD in Islamic Studies at Birmingham University, U.K., and has an MA in Christian Theology from the Near East School of Theology, Beirut, Lebanon. Her BA is in Philosophy from Cairo University, Egypt. She also has an Diploma and guide licence in the Ancient Pharaohnic monuments. She has worked as a lecturer for Islamic Studies in the School of Religions and Theology at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, from 2003 to 2008. During 2002-2003 she was a lecturer of Islamic Studies at the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, Manchester University, U.K. She also worked many years as a scientific guide for Islamic and ancient Pharaohnic monuments in Luxor, Egypt.

As author, she has published God and Humans in Islamic Thought, London: Routledge, 2006. This book has received The Iranian World Prize for the Book of the Year 2007 in the category ‘Philosophy and Mysticism’ and was republished in 2011. As co-editor she published The Afterlife of the Platonic Soul: Reflection of Platonic Psychology in the Monotheistic Religions, Leiden: Brill, 2009. Maha Elkaisy also wrote several articles, the last of which was published in the Journal of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations (volume 22, 2011) under the title “Fakhr al-Din Al-Razi on God and the Trinity”.
