Curriculum Vitae
Maha Elkaisy-Friemuth, geboren Elkaisy, is sinds 1 september 2008 tewerkgesteld aan de Faculteit Theologie en Religiewetenschappen, KU Leuven, als docent gespecialiseerd in de islam en de christelijke-islamitische relatie. Ze behoort tot de onderzoekseenheid Geschiedenis van Kerk en Theologie.
Maha Elkaisy-Friemuth behaalde haar doctoraat in Islamitische Studies aan de Universiteit van Birmingham, U.K., en heeft een MA in christelijke theologie van de Near East School of Theology in Beiroet, Libanon. Haar BA in de Filosofie behaalde ze aan de Universiteit van Caïro, Egypte. Ze heeft ook een diploma en een gidslicentie in de Oude Pharaohnic monumenten. Ze werkte voordien in Trinity College in Dublin, Ierland, van 2003 tot 2008 als docent voor islamitische studies in de School of Religions and Theology. Gedurende 2002-2003 was ze docent van Islamitische Studies in het Department of Middle Eastern Studies, Manchester University, U.K. Ze werkte ook vele jaren als wetenschappelijke gids voor de islamitische en oude Pharaohnic monumenten in Luxor, Egypte.
Ze publiceerde als auteur God and Humans in Islamic Thought, London: Routledge, 2006. Dit boek ontving The Iranian World Prize for the Book of the Year 2007 in de categorie ‘Philosophy and Mysticism’ en werd heruitgegeven in 2011. En als co-editor publiceerde ze The Afterlife of the Platonic Soul: Reflection of Platonic Psychology in the Monotheistic Religions, Leiden: Brill, 2009. Maha Elkaisy schreef ook diverse artikelen, waarvan het laatste werd gepubliceerd in het Journal of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations (volume 22, 2011) met als titel “Fakhr al-Din Al-Razi on God and the Trinity”.
