The researchers of the interdisciplinary FWO research project “Mary Magdalene and the Touching of Jesus. An Intra- en Interdisciplinary Investigation of the Interpretation of John 20:17 in Exegesis, Iconography and Pastoral Care” of the Faculty of Theology invite you to their international conference Noli me tangere: Text, Image, context in the Academia Belgica, Rome, from April, 01-03, 2008.

The symposium aims at a specialized international conference of researchers on the Noli me tangere (John 20:17) and related issues concerning content and methodology. This conference does not intend to be just one more conference on the figure of Mary Magdalene – even though we are well aware that it will be difficult to avoid the attention our conference will undoubtedly receive in this regard. The conference rather intends to focuses on an particular aspect of the reception of Mary Magdalene in cultural history, namely the issue of touch.
The organizers believe that a scholarly meeting on the exegetical, anthropological, pastoral and art-historical implications of the Noli me tangere will stimulate an enriching debate that will certainly lead to new insights, not the least because of its interdisciplinary character.
