  • 15 & 16 December 2008: Symposium "Episcopal Authority in Late Antiquity". A symposium with visiting lecturer Prof. Dr. Susanna Elm, University of California (Berkeley). This symposium on episcopal authority in late antiquity arises out of the Faculty of Theology’s ongoing research project devoted to episcopal elections and episcopal succession in late antiquity. Visiting lecturer Prof. Dr. Susanna Elm, Professor of History and Classics at the University of California (Berkeley), will offer both a keynote lecture as well as a seminar presentation addressing Gregory of Nazianzus’ clash with the emperor Julian concerning the character and exercise of episcopal authority in the later Roman empire.   • 26-28 October 2009: International Conference "Episcopal Elections in Late Antiquity (250-600)".  The Faculty of Theology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven is organizing an international conference on episcopal elections and episcopal succession in late antiquity, to be held 26-28 October 2009.
