Moving People
The study group moving people (in Dutch: Werkgroep Mens en Migratie) is an important part of the Centre for Liberation Theologies. The group aims to be a platform for theological discussion and reflection on the phenomena of globalization and migration, which are so influential on the twenty first century global society. The study group follows two tracks. A core reflection group meets rather intensively (4 times per semester) to study and discuss theological texts that are related to the issue of migration. Secondly, the study group organizes activities for a wider audience, such as movie-nights, debates and lectures.
The study group is opened specifically for students (of course doctoral students are more than welcome). The study group mainly intends to provide a platform for discussion and reflection. In the meetings we will focus on theology and spirituality, starting from the basic principle that both need to be concerned with concrete reality. Therefore, we greatly value meeting people who can dialogue with us from their own experience about the meaning of migration. Moreover, we try as much as we can to be guided by social sciences in our developing an understanding of migration. Now and then we will invite specialists from the departments of sociology, political sciences and law to give a lecture on a certain topic that is relevant for our discussions.
