The Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACHTUS) has announced the site and program for its next annual national colloquium. It will take place at the Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, on June 3-6, 2001. This year's general theme will be: "New Directions in Ecumenism: Ministry and Theology." Presentations and discussions will address the general theme from different perspectives, seeking to understand the U.S. Latino/a contributions to the ongoing Catholic-Protestant dialogue.
The first session will focus on the Reformation, reinterpreted from U.S. Latino/a perspectives. Prof. Alejandro Garcia-Rivera (Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley) and Prof. Jose David Rodriguez (Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago) will be speakers at the first session.
The second session will discuss indigenous spiritualities. Prof. Ralph Casas (Claremont School of Theology, Claremont) will address the participants at this session.
The third session will address popular religion as ecumenism's new frontier in the U.S. Prof. Arelene Sanchez-Walsh (De Paul University, Chicago) and Prof. Anita de Luna (Mexican American Cultural Center, San Antonio) will be speakers at this session.
There will be a fourth session on the latest U.S. Latino/a theological publications, and the annual Awards Banquet. Doctors Nancy Pineda-Madrid and Jose Rubio will conduct the closing session of the entire colloquium (discerning general lines of discussion and suggestions for future research).
