Mission Statement
The Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Religion was established in December 2000, is operational since October 2001 and is part of the Faculty of Theology (KU Leuven). In September 2006 the name of the centre was changed to Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Religion and World View (ICSRW). This interdisciplinary centre brings together researchers from the Faculty of Theology and from outside who study religion as a phenomenon in the contemporary multicultural society from various perspectives and disciplines. The ICSRW is responsible for the religious studies component of the academic programs Theology and Religious Studies and takes care of the major Religious Studies (one of the six majors). For students possessing an academic Bachelor’s degree the ICSRW offers the program Master in World Religions, Interreligious Dialogue and Religious Studies (Master WIDR). Through series of lectures, conferences and workshops the ICRSW wants to provide a broad public with a deeper understanding of the contemporary society’s religious resources.
