Newsletter Research May 2009
1. Introduction
Dear researchers attached to the Faculty of Theology,
While the wheather is steadily improving and the enthusiasm for doing work behind one’s working table is decreasing, I am happy to ask your attention for only one new thing: a four year Research Fellowship at Keble College, Oxford (deadline: May, 15 – apologies for the lateness of this). With regard to two more items I would like to refer you to the previous Newsletter of April. The Franqui Intercommunitaire Mandaten (deadline: May 15) are postdoctoral fellowships, allowing young researchers to spend 6 months at a University on the other side of the language barrier. For our faculty especially the UCL may be a convenient partner institution. The Tournesol Program (deadline: May 22) offers possibilities to finance contributions with research institutions in France.
The next Newsletter will appear in september.
2. Vacancies
Research Fellowship and Teaching Post in Theology - Keble College
Keble College proposes to elect a Liddon Research Fellow in Theology for a period of four years (fixed-term, non-renewable) from 1 October 2009. The fellowship will be held in conjunction with a four-hour teaching post at the College. Scholars in receipt of another source of income, who would like a college association, are welcome to apply.
Applicants should have research expertise in preferably (a) Christian Doctrine/Historical Theology, or possibly (b) Old Testament/Ancient Judaism. Teaching requirements for the associated post are to be able to teach, in the case of those with interests in area (a), Prelims paper No. 1 (and optionally No. 4), as well as FHS Paper 5 and three or more of Papers 4, 7, 8, 9a, 9b, 11, 12, 13, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38. For candidates with interests in area (b), they should be able to teach Prelims papers Nos. 2, 8 and FHS papers 1, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26; and optionally 29, 38. Details of these papers may be found at http://resources.theology.ox.ac.uk/handbooks/PrelimsHandbook2009.pdf and http://resources.theology.ox.ac.uk/handbooks/FHShandbook2010.pdf
The Fellow may be asked to help in a limited way with the academic and pastoral organisation of the subject and with admissions. The teaching stint will be four hours per week averaged over the academic year. Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Markus Bockmuehl at Markus.Bockmuehl@keble.ox.ac.uk.
The combined remuneration for the two positions will be £8,688 (current rate, reviewed annually). The Fellow will not be a member of the College Governing Body, but will be a full member of the Senior Common Room and be entitled to lunch and dinner at the Common Table as well as to an academic allowance of £464 p.a. and a student allowance of £217 p.a. (both current rates). A shared teaching room will be available. The Fellow will be eligible to join USS. Selection will be made on the basis of research potential and teaching ability. The positions are subject to a one-year probationary period.
The closing date for applications is 15 May 2009. Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae (including the names, addresses and telephone numbers of two referees) and a statement of their research activity and teaching experience (including an indication of which parts of the current Theology Prelims and FHS courses they might teach) to Mrs Trish Long, Warden’s PA, Keble College, Oxford OX1 3PG (e-mail: trish.long@keble.ox.ac.uk), and should ask their referees to write directly to the Warden’s PA by the same date.
