Newsletter Research June 2009

Dear researchers of the faculty,

I know I promised the next newsletter would only come in september but you know how it is: the research scene is an ever-flowing stream about which there always is something to communicate. But I will be short. Young postdocs or doctors-to-be may consider a year in the Netherlands with a Rubicon Fellowship of the NWO; gifted postdocs or promising doctoral students in the area of systematic theology may consider to apply for two positions available in Zürich. All the others can limit themselves to thinking about to whom they might pass on this information.

1. Research Stays in the Netherlands for beginning postdocs: the Rubicon Programme

The NWO (Dutch equivalent of our FWO-V) has a fairly new program for young researchers. The Rubicon programme is directed at promising young postdoctoral researchers who are still at the start of their careers but whose academic strengths give them the potential to become established figures in the research world. Young researchers are encouraged to dedicate themselves to a career in postdoctoral research. It does so by giving them the chance to enhance their career prospects by spending up to two years at a top research institution outside the Netherlands or one year at an excellent Dutch research institution. The Rubicon programme also offers talented researchers from abroad (max. 1 year after the doctoral degree was awarded) the opportunity to obtain grants to spend one year conducting research in the Netherlands. Proposals will be assessed on the basis of the quality of the applicant, the research proposal and the host institution. The Rubicon programme is open to all scientific disciplines.

There will be three selection rounds a year. In 2009 the next deadlines are on 1 September and 1 December.

2. Research Positions for Systematic Theologians (pre- and postdoctoral) in Zürich

At the "Institut für Hermeneutik und Religionsphilosophie der Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Zürich" two research positions are available at either the doctoral or postdoctoral level. Both fellows will work in a new three year project on “Vertrauen verstehen” (Understanding Trust). It is a large, interdisciplinary project in which specialists in philosophical and hermeneutical, sociological or theological aproaches will collaborate with historians or neurobiologists. Ability to engage in a real interdisciplinary dialogue is therefore essential.

If you’re interested, you may contact until 17 July at the very latest the directors of the project: Prof. Dr. I.U. Dalferth, Institut für Hermeneutik und Religionsphilosophie, Kirchgasse 9, CH-8001 Zürich or Dr. Andreas Hunziker, IHR, Tel. 044 634 47 53 oder andreashunziker@access.uzh.ch.
