The Normativity of History
Latest Newsletter (#1) 19 September 2009
Dear colleagues,
Hoping you could enjoy nice holidays, I want to anticipate to the question concerning the GOA: what are we going to do and what can we expect from each other?
First of all, please notice in your agenda October 19, 1:30 – 5:00 PM (I will send you the place as soon as possible). During these three hours we will have our first meeting of the new academic year. What’s on the program? Well, we give the floor to all juniors (except observers*) of our research group; every member of our GOA-group, however, is expected to be present. The GOA-board is convinced that it would be good to hear from each of the juniors what they want to do this academic year with regard to the GOA. And next year, at the beginning of the academic year 2010-2011, we want to hear the progress and results. So, everyone of the juniors is invited to formulate her/his challenges for the academic year 2009-2010. In concrete terms: every junior speaks five minutes, so there are five minutes left for suggestions and other remarks. We are conscious of the fact that this means too little time for too many people, but it is important that – at the beginning of the new academic year – we refresh our GOA-mind and that all of us know what everyone of us is working on, so we can support each other (by way of suggestions, insights, etc.) during this session and the next academic year.
Dear junior, your presentation should contain a very brief description of your own research topic; the ‘GOA-research avenue’ you feel most of all related to; a brief overview of your plans for the next academic year (related to the GOA-project, of course); and 1 concrete thing you want to obtain during the new academic year.
Conscious of the fact that five minutes is quite short, I invite every junior on behalf of the GOA-board of professors to send me her/his written preparation (max. 1 page) of her/his five minutes (deadline: October 10). And a last request: please, add your own scientific bibliography (which contributions are already published/submitted texts) to this written preparation.
To satisfy everyone of our group: in February 2010, the seniors will have the floor.
A second date to be noticed in your agenda, is November 23, 4:00-6:00: lecture of Gavin D’Costa, professor at the University of Bristol. More information will follow.
Looking forward to meet each other on October 19,
Kind regards,
Jürgen, GOA-coordinator
*Next to the juniors and the seniors, there are observers: juniors who are fully involved within the GOA-group but who are not requested to do everything due to their specific position. Observers: Phillip Davis, Andrew Meszaros and Ashlee Kirk.
