Research Groups

  • Research Group of Prof. Dr. Mathijs Lamberigts

    This Research group contentrates is embedded within the Research Unit of the History of Church and Theology. It concentrates its research on Augustine, on the reception of Augustine's thinking and writings throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as on the Second Vatican Council. In this research, a strong focus liets with theme's such as the relationship between orthodoxy and heteredoxy, and the complex reception and interpretation of officially fixed opinions and doctrines.

  • Research Group of Prof. Dr. Lieven Boeve

The research group of Boeve was founded in the year 2000 under the name ‘Theology in a Postmodern Con- text’.7 It researches the precondition which allows theology to be plausible and relevant in the current context, from a cultural-theological and philosophical-theological perspective. These two closely connected research lines led to the formulation of a theology of interruption, marked by a radical-hermeneutical theological method.

  • Research Group of Prof. Dr. Terrence Merrigan

    Since 2006 the research group around Merrigan has been identified as the group ‘Christian Self- Understanding and Interreligious Dialogue’. As the name indicates, the research conducted in this group re- volves around two major poles and the interaction between them, namely, Christian self-understanding (or identity), and the attempts by Christian communities and particular Christian theologians to promote, and to provide both a theological foundation and a concrete modus operandi for, the practice of interreligious dialogue
