Title of PhD Research
Postmodern Interreligious Dialogue? An Investigation into the Possibility of a Tradition-Specific Approach to Interreligious Dialogue.
Short Description
The aim of this research project is to examine and critique a recent trend in the theology of religions.
- This trend is characterized by an appeal to postmodern themes and paradigms as part of an attempt to redefine the nature and function of interreligious dialogue.
- The most important representatives of this trend, which is best described as the tradition-specific approach to interreligious dialogue, are (among others) Gavin D’Costa, Paul Griffiths, Gerard Loughlin, Kenneth Surin and Mark Heim.
This project aims to examine the presuppositions undergirding this approach and to subject them to critical analysis.
