Title of PhD Research
Understanding (in)difference. Muslim and Christian feminist reflections on the restrictions and possibilities of interreligious dialogue
Short description
This research project attempts to examine how postcolonial Muslim and Christian feminist theological proposals may provide a constructive theological answer to the plural impasse of current theological frameworks of interreligious dialogue. Specifically focusing on muslim-christian encounters between women (with reference to a number of dialogue projects in Western Europe), theological understandings of difference/otherness and community/solidarity are being analyzed from an intersectional feminist theological perspective (that is, paying critical attention to gendered, racial/ethnic, and religious constructs of power difference).
In the introductory phase, the critiques of Muslim and Christian feminists on the Christian-Western limitedness of the classical paradigm of IRD are described and explained. During the second phase of this project, we focus on the ways in which Muslim and Christian feminist theology search to formulate new discourses for interfaith communication. Subsequently, feminist 'discourse' and 'dialogue' are confronted with each other. To do so, the intention and reports of the progression (patterns of communication) of different existing Christian-Muslim interreligious dialogue projects are analyzed by using the developed reading keys of 'difference' and 'community'.
