Study abroad at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven - Admissions

Candidates interested in the semester program have to apply to the KU Leuven for admission by means of an on-line application form (http://www.kuleuven.be/application/?js=1). When opening the on-line application form, candidates have to select the option 'Abridged Bachelor of Theology and Religious Studies' . This is due to the fact that the semester program is part of this larger bachelor program. Candidates should not select the option 'Exchange student'.
In view of the complex administrative process involved - including application for a student visa - candidates have to submit, in addition to their application form, the required electronic uploaded documents. Applications without electronic uploaded documents will not be processed and will be deleted after one month. Candidates should upload a separate document indicating their interest in the semester program and the period they are planning to spend in Leuven. Applications have to be submitted:
- before March 1 for the following academic year (if one is interested in the first (Autumn) semester or a full academic year)
- before November 1 (if one is interested in the second (Spring) semester)
Candidates are required to pay an application processing fee of EUR 75 to the International Admissions and Mobility Unit of the KU Leuven. It is possible to follow up the status of the application as soon as the application form and the attachments have been successfully uploaded. After a preliminary inspection by the International Admissions and Mobility Unit, the application is forwarded to the Admissions Committee of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies. During this time the application is 'in proces'. The approval process consists of several steps and takes some time, roughly three to six weeks. As soon as a decision has been taken, the status of the application will change into 'Admitted' or 'Rejected'.
Candidates receive a confirmation of the decision via e-mail. When an application has been approved, the offer has to be accepted before the official letter of admission will be sent. As soon as the acceptance is received by the International Admissions and Mobility Unit, the official letter of admission will be issued and sent. Information on how to proceed after the admission has been granted, can be found at:
- Administrative formalities prior to departure (http://www.kuleuven.be/admissions/bachelor/prior_stud.html)
- Administrative formalities upon arrival (http://www.kuleuven.be/admissions/bachelor/upon_arrival.html)
Further information on the admissions procedure can be found on the Faculty's website: http://theo.kuleuven.be/en/prospective_students/admissions/
At the end of one semester or a full academic year, students will receive a certificate stating that they took part in the program and how many credits they obtained. In addition students will receive a certificate explanation for their home institution. Please feel free to contact us, if you have any questions.
