Welcome!

Dear visitor of our website

Lieven Boeve

It is my pleasure as Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, to welcome you to our website. We are very pleased that you have come to visit this site, and we hope that you will find the information available here both interesting and useful. All relevant addresses, etc. are available on these pages, and it goes without saying, of course, that if more information should be needed, we are at your disposal.

The Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of our University has a long and ancient tradition. It was founded in 1432 and has played a significant role in the development and dissemination of theological thought. Both as a Catholic theological Faculty and as an integral part of an internationally renowned university, it has taken up the duty to reflect, both critically and constructively, on the Christian tradition in relation to the challenges of history and world. Crossing between academia, Church and society, our faculty has reflected upon the plausibility and relevance of the Christian faith in dialogue with philosophy, the sciences, and various cultures and religions. Theology and religious studies, in this regard, go hand in hand. Theologians from our Faculty were among some of the most important contributors to Vatican II and we have set ourselves the task of carrying on their work of renewal in faithfulness to our Christian heritage.

Centrally located in Europe, the Catholic University of Leuven and our Faculty have always had an international character. Many international students from all over the world have joined our international  programmes in English, and most of them pursue doctoral studies afterwards. Additionally, international scholars regularly visit Leuven to take part in the many research activities, congresses and symposia of our research departments or to study in our library, which is considered one of the best theological libraries of the world.
Take the opportunity to discover more about our Faculty and what it has to offer by browsing around our Homepage. There you will find the complete information about the history of the Faculty and its current structure. And, of course, you will discover what we have to offer by way of educational programmes, as well as the kind of research that is being conducted by members of the Faculty.
As I have indicated, our Faculty has a long tradition of international hospitality. These web-pages are simply the technological extension of that hospitality. Avail yourself of it! You are most welcome.

Sincerely,

Prof. Lieven Boeve
Dean
