 New Product Enhancements:

Scripture Search Enhancing: Previously, ATLA Religion Database, ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials and ATLASerials Religion Collection via EBSCO host included a flat scripture authority file that displayed scripture references in alphabetical order and required users to search for exact scripture references indexed in a given citation.

With the new authority file, users can browse the books of the Bible in canonical order and drill down to the chapter, then verse level. Selecting an entry at the book, chapter, or verse level will execute a search for all records indexed with that book, chapter or verse.

With the new scripture authority file, EBSCO has added an expanded scripture reference searching for records indexed with a scripture range. For example, if a user selects Acts in the new scripture authority and drills down through Chapter 1 and elects to search Verse 5, they will return records indexed with Acts 1:5, as well as records indexed with Acts 1:1-11 or Acts 1:1-15:35.

BETH Newsletter September 2011

As this post-Assembly letter was originally written in French, the French version appears first and the English translation follows.

 
A l’issue de cette 40e assemblée de BETH, alors que je roule en Thalys pour retrouver la douce France, mon esprit résonne encore des moments si forts que nous avons vécus ensemble.
Faut-il parler d’abord de la parfaite organisation que nous ont préparée nos amis hollandais ?
Faut-il dire combien nous avons apprécié les conférences qui nous ont été offertes : la jeunesse et l’enthousiasme des premières conférencières, leur professionnalisme, l’intérêt qu’elles ont toutes montré pour nos métiers dont elles attendent l’aide, sont très motivants pour nous tourner vers l’avenir.
Le tableau brillantissime qui nous a été fait des nouvelles technologies à l’œuvre était fascinant, même s’il n’a pas manqué de m’inquiéter pour l’avenir des générations futures. L’homme a besoin de temps pour mûrir, même s’il a été capable de concevoir des outils qui contractent ce temps, et invitent à vivre dans une illusion numérique assez contraire aux besoins de vérité et de cohérence auxquels nous, chrétiens, sommes invités.
Les discussions avec les éditeurs nous ont permis de mieux appréhender leur monde et de créer des liens qui, je l’espère, nous permettront de réaliser une des nombreuses propositions de nos scandinaves si créatifs !
Merci à ATLA pour son soutien sans lequel BETH ne serait que l’ombre d’elle-même.
Merci  à vous tous pour votre implication dans tous ces débats.
Merci à Andréas de nous avoir présenté la plateforme GlobeTheoLib qui va être dévoilée au public les 23 et 24 septembre prochains.
Merci à l’équipe « Site web, communication » qui vient de voir le jour et qui a déjà un calendrier d’action bien nourri.
Merci pour les données questionnaires qui vont être enregistrées et pour les idées d’exploitation que Geert a proposées. Je les attends avec intérêt.
Merci pour la décision sage qui a été prise d’ajourner le vote pour l’entrée de BETH dans l’IFLA et dans GlobeTheoLib. Je suis absolument sûre que votre oui l’an prochain sera un oui parfaitement assumé, pour soutenir ces deux projets qui, j’en fais le pari, vont faire la preuve de leur viabilité.
Enfin merci à tous pour ces partages d’expériences qui sont la raison d’être de notre association, pour ce partage d’amitié qui ne se dément pas d’une année à l’autre et nous donne envie de nous retrouver pour de nouvelles rencontres gratifiantes.
Je vais donc commencer une année de découverte où il sera moins question de gérer les problèmes quotidiens que les projets des associations. J’inscris donc 2011-2012 au service de BETH, mais aussi d’ATLA, de l’ABCF, de l’IFLA, de GlobeTheoLib, de la COCTI mais aussi des associations nationales hors théologie.
Finalement tout cela se rejoint dans le service des utilisateurs de bibliothèques qui ont besoin de nos compétences pour résoudre leurs problèmes d’archivage toujours plus aigus.

At the conclusion of the 40th Assembly of BETH, as I roll along with Thalys on my way back to gentle France, my spirit reverberates again with the great moments that we experienced together.
Should I speak first about the perfect organisation that was prepared for us by our Dutch friends? Should I tell how much we appreciated the lectures that were given to us: the youth and enthusiasm of the first presenters, their professionalism, the interest that they all showed in our techniques from which they are waiting for help; all of which were very motivating in turning us towards the future. The very brilliant picture that they painted for us of the new technologies applied to the work was fascinating, even though the worry about the future for the generations to come was ever present for me.  
Man needs time to mature; just as he has been able to conceive of the tools that contract this time, tools that invite us to live in a numerical illusion sufficiently contrary to reality and coherence to which we, as Christians, are guests.
The discussion with the publishers gave us an opportunity to learn more about their world and to create the contacts that, I hope, will lead us to realise one of the many propositions of our Scandinavians who are so creative!
Thanks to ATLA for their support without which BETH would be but a shadow of present self. 
Thanks to all of you for your involvement in all of the discussions.
Thanks to Andreas for having presented the GlobeTheoLib platform which will proceed to be launched on the public scene on the 23rd and the 24th of this September.
Thanks to the "website and communication" team that has been formed and that already has a well-developed schedule for action.
Thanks for the questionnaires that have been submitted which will be recorded and for the ideas for their use that Geert has proposed; I await these with interest.
Thank you for the wise decision that was taken to postpone the vote on the entrance of BETH into IFLA and into GlobeTheoLib. I am absolutely convinced that your 'yes' next year will be a 'yes' that is completely thought through, in order to support these two projects which, I am willing to wager, will prove viable.
Lastly, thanks to all for sharing your experiences, which is the very reason for the existence of our association; this sharing of friendship, that has not waned from one year to another, makes us eager to come together again to enjoy more new and rewarding encounters.
I am, thus, beginning a year of discovery where it will be less a question of managing the day to day problems, as attending to the projects of associations. I am signing up, therefore, during 2011-2012 in the service of BETH, but also in service to ATLA, to ABCF, to IFLA, to GlobeTheoLib, to COCTI, as well as to the national associations outside of theology.
Finally all of this comes together in the service of the library users who need our competence to solve their archival problems that are increasingly and more acutely demanding.
A very happy return to work to all.
